In August Brigette Ramirez, a U.S. History teacher at Foy H. Moody High School, had a simple idea to help her students. She started a hygiene drawer in her classroom - a drawer stocked with basic toiletry items like soap, deodorant, feminine products and other essentials.

The hygiene drawer was intended to provide access to these products for students who may not have them readily available at home due to financial constraints or other difficulties. What started small has blossomed into something much bigger thanks to generous community donations, and donations she received after mentioning the initiative on social media.

With an influx of donated toiletries and hygiene supplies, Brigette has been able to keep her classroom drawer well-stocked while also donating excess items to other schools in the district. She has provided supplies to the CCISD programs and caring corners at other campuses.

"It's about more than just giving students access to soap and deodorant," Brigette explained. "Having basic hygiene products can give kids confidence and dignity. I never want a student to miss out on that because of financial hardship at home."

Brigette's compassion and the hygiene corner initiative have made a positive impact on students at Moody High School and across the district. Her efforts ensure that none of her students has to go without essential self-care items.
