For Metro Elementary School of Design teacher and director Desiree Cantu, the journey began in November with auditions that drew a diverse pool of talent. The students were eager to embody the iconic characters from Shrek. From the spirited Fiona to the loveable Donkey, every role was cast to ensure a captivating performance.

"I'm very proud of the work we have done together," Cantu said. "I can't wait for the audience to see all of the hard work they have been putting in."

Once the cast was selected, weekly rehearsals began. As opening day approached, the young actors had three rehearsals per week.

From casting to costume design, every aspect of the production is crafted to create a magical experience for cast members and audience members.

For fifth grade student Mia Velazquez, this is her first show playing a lead role. She plays Princess Fiona.

"I feel Fiona fits with my personality," Velazquez said. "She's sassy, very energetic and shows lots of emotions."

For three nights only you can see Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and the rest of the cast. Join us at 6 p.m. March 26 - 28 in the school's auditorium. Donations welcome at the door.
