The Wolves’ Boys and Girls Choirs were among the schools recently participating in UIL competition. The boys' choir earned straight 1's, which is a superior rating in concert, and earned straight 1's in sight-reading, qualifying them for the Sweepstakes Trophy. The girls' choir earned a 2, which is an excellent rating, in concert as well as a 2 in sight-reading.

The mixed choir, which has only been meeting once a week after school since February, also received a plaque for earning excellent and superior ratings. Most impressive, their dedication and progress led the group from a rating of 5-4-4 (Poor-Fair-Fair) in sight-reading last school year, to a perfect score of 1-1-1 this year.

Choir director Micheal Perez is in his first year at Cunningham at South Park and with CCISD. This is the school’s first sweepstakes award.

"I am overjoyed by the ones who participated and did not give up," Perez said. "They learned how to put on a strong, versatile program and had the courage to sight-read 24 measures in six minutes without the help of a piano and be so successful."

The school’s principal appreciates the positive culture the choirs foster on campus.

“Mr. Perez truly cares about building this program and helping the kids be a part of a group," Principal Rachel Neff-Rupp said.
