Following a thorough search during the summer months, Corpus Christi ISD has selected a member of the district’s Office of Athletics to serve as the new senior athletic director.
Kevin Hendrickson, who held the position of assistant athletic director in CCISD since March 2023, has been named to the department’s top job.
Hendrickson, who holds a bachelor’s and a master’s from Texas State University, worked for Austin ISD immediately prior to CCISD. As Austin ISD’s district area athletic coordinator, he led stadium operations as well as overseeing three sports and their associated logistics and events. Since beginning his career in 2008, Hendrickson has gained coaching and leadership experience through his work at the secondary level.
“Corpus Christi ISD offers a highly competitive, comprehensive athletics program grounded in character building, personal discipline and the pursuit of excellence,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “Mr. Hendrickson brings depth in athletics management as well as strong ties to Corpus Christi. We look forward to an exciting school year under his leadership of the Office of Athletics.”
CCISD will welcome students to a new school year on Monday, August 11.

Megan Moeller, standing in her new classroom at Rose Shaw Elementary School, smiled as her mom revealed the décor she had picked out for both of their classrooms.
The mother-daughter duo shared laughs and swapped ideas as they decorated each other’s classrooms ahead of the 2025–2026 school year. Megan will be teaching 3rd grade, while Valerie, a veteran teacher, will teach 4th grade.
“We’re thrilled to have the dynamic Moeller duo in our classrooms,” said Christine Bernal, Principal of Shaw Elementary School. “Miss Moeller began by volunteering and substituting, eventually discovering her passion for teaching. Mrs. Moeller has been a dedicated educator in many roles, and together, they bring heart, commitment, and excellence to Shaw.”
Valerie is entering her 20th year with CCISD, as Megan begins her first year as an Associate Teacher.
“I grew up around educators. I would come and help out, and I love working with kids. It’s very rewarding,” Megan said. “I don’t think I would have wanted to become a teacher if it hadn’t been for my mom.”
Corpus Christi ISD is pleased to announce that it will continue providing free breakfast and lunch to all students for the upcoming school year. Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision provide breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students at no charge.
“Providing our students with nutritious meals is essential to supporting both their health and academic success,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez.
The free meals program is made possible through the Texas Department of Agriculture via the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
CCISD has been providing free breakfast and lunch since 2018. During the 2024-2025 school year, CCISD served over 6.2 million free breakfast, lunch, Saturday and supper meals.
Although parents and guardians will not need to complete a free/reduced lunch application, they will still need to complete a district income survey. The income survey is part of the online registration process. Gathering data on students’ economic status helps the district remain compliant with state reporting and receive money for grants and programs.

Yesterday, more than 5,000 CCISD employees from every campus and department came together to kick off the school year with pride, energy, and unity. CCISD showed up and showed out with posters, pom-poms, mascots, lights, matching shirts, and giant letters.
This year’s theme, Unleash Your Potential, came to life as we celebrated our incredible staff and looked ahead to a fantastic 2025-2026 school year!
A special thank you to Mary Carroll High School graduate and national softball champion Vanessa Quiroga for inspiring us with her story. We also thank our first student keynote speaker, Josiah Ponce, a senior at Collegiate High School and president of the Texas Association of Future Educators. Thank you both for inspiring us and proving that CCISD is the place to be!

The Corpus Christi ISD Board of Trustees adopted a policy restricting the use of personal communication devices during the school day, following legislation passed by the 89th Texas Legislature.
The policy, approved during the July 28 Board of Trustees Meeting, will require all students to keep devices off and put away throughout the school day.
Detailed information about Texas House Bill 1481 is available on the Texas Legislature’s website.
District officials studied the new legislation and recommended a policy for adoption by the Board of Trustees. During the 2024-2025 school year, students in grades PK-8 were required to keep personal devices turned off and put away throughout the school day, and students in grades 9-12 were permitted to use devices between classes and during lunch.
Students who violate district policy or regulations will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
CCISD looks forward to welcoming students to a new school year, which begins Monday, Aug. 11.
