Today, Denise Caldera, a kindergarten bilingual teacher at Galvan Elementary in Corpus Christi ISD, was named the 2027 Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year. Caleb Gamblin, who teaches agricultural sciences at Bangs High School in Bangs ISD, was named the 2027 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Caldera was chosen to represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition, making her official title 2027 Texas Teacher of the Year.

Also honored during the luncheon were the 40 Regional Teachers of the Year and the six finalists for Texas Teacher of the Year.

Meet Alyssa Reyes! Alyssa attended Webb Elementary School, Kaffie Middle School, King High School and Veterans Memorial High School. She is a teacher at Metro Elementary School of Design. 🍎

"I was incredibly privileged to be a part of the Starline Dance Team at Veterans Memorial during its first three years of existence, serving as Colonel for all three years. Our director, Lindsey Bell, taught me so much about responsibility, leadership, and what it means to be a positive role model for others. I now have the opportunity to serve as the Dance Teacher at Metro E School of Design, where I get to pass these same lessons on to my students."

CCISD is the place to be! 🍎🎉

Yesterday’s sold-out State of the District brought together nearly 800 guests to celebrate our students, staff and all the exciting opportunities happening across our district!

Our students were at the heart of it all. ❤️ Students greeted guests, performed on stage, helped with sound and lighting, and showcased programs like fashion design, medical sciences, aviation and more during the Hearts & Minds Showcase.

A special thank you to the culinary programs at Moody and Ray High Schools, which made the day even sweeter with desserts! 🍰

The event also raised $178,000 for the Corpus Christi Education Foundation! These funds support CCISD students and educators, including Grants for World-Class Schools, which help bring innovative, hands-on and real-world learning experiences into our classrooms.
