Meet Anna Martinez! Anna graduated from Carroll High School and is a kindergarten teacher at Ella Barnes Elementary School.

"My favorite years of my life attending CCISD were my days at South Park Middle School. I can say I have many memories there. My favorite teachers growing up were Sonya Taylor-2nd and 3rd grade teacher at Kostoryz Elementary and Tony Armadillo-Art Teacher at Carroll High School. Both have influenced my life and have helped me become a successful teacher. I am still in contact with them and have enjoyed connecting with them both."

As CCISD plans for the upcoming school year, the district will keep the community informed regarding new leadership assignments.

The district has named Dr. Jenifer Guerra-Leos as the new leader of Mary Carroll High School.

Guerra-Leos, a Carroll graduate, currently serves as principal of Tom Browne Middle School after serving as an assistant principal at Roy Miller High School. With 24 years of secondary-level experience in CCISD, Dr. Guerra-Leos holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She is the current Region 2 Middle School Principal of the Year.

“The committee was impressed by Dr. Guerra-Leos’ instructional expertise as well as her ability to cultivate a positive school culture,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “Under her leadership, Browne Middle School improved two letter grades in state accountability scores. We are confident she will collaborate with our Tigers students, staff and families to help this vibrant school community raise the bar even higher while continuing to celebrate their cherished traditions.”

Additionally, the district has named Dr. Marc Aguilera as the incoming principal for Windsor Park Elementary School, an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme that houses the district’s gifted and talented program. Aguilera will follow Dr. Kimberly Bissell, who has led the school since 2010. Bissell recently announced her retirement, effective the end of the school year, after 22 years of service to the district.

Aguilera has served as principal of the district’s Fred. R. Sanders Elementary School since 2021, following six years as an assistant principal at Elliott Grant Middle School and nearly eight years as a district math specialist. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and earned his master’s and doctorate degrees from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

“The committee was impressed with Dr. Aguilera’s skills in forming collaborative relationships with school families and the community, as well as his strong instructional knowledge,” Hernandez said. “We have had a special, extraordinarily dedicated leader and advocate in Dr. Bissell, and we are grateful to Dr. Aguilera for his commitment to leading our Owls community into this next chapter.”

Meet Joshua Vasquez! Josuha graduated from Roy Miller High School and is a benefits specialist at ArcelorMittal Texas HBI.

"My time at CCISD prepared me for my career and adult life by teaching me to go after opportunities, even when the outcome wasn’t certain. It helped me develop discipline, responsibility, and accountability, which are skills that have been essential in every area of my life. A teacher who made a lasting impact on me was Coach Jesse Cruz, who taught Biology and coached Football. His passion for teaching/coaching and dedication to his students inspired me to stay curious and push myself to do better."
