TEA releases district scores: Corpus Christi ISD strengthens ‘B’ rating, with all high schools rated ‘A’ or ‘B’
Corpus Christi ISD district leaders are commending teachers, students and campus leaders following the announcement that the district earned an 83, or “B,” rating in the Texas Education Agency’s state accountability system for the 2025-2026 school year, up two points from the previous year.
“Along with our Board of Trustees, I am proud of the students, educators, staff and supporters who contribute to the success of our schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “The commitment of our campus teams, strengthened by outstanding support from the district and implementation of our strategic priorities, had a meaningful and positive impact on our students.”
CCISD schools demonstrated significant improvements from 2024-2025. Six Corpus Christi ISD schools maintained an “A” rating: Creekside Elementary, Windsor Park Elementary, Baker Middle School, Branch Academy, Collegiate High School, and Veterans Memorial High School. Additionally, Coles High School earned an “A” Rating.
Thirty-one CCISD schools earned a “B” rating, which is an increase in the number of campuses earning this rating. The district has been steadfastly working to support the 11 schools given “C” ratings, as well as the four schools (including students from now-closed schools who are attending other district campuses) rated “D”: Fannin Elementary School, Gibson Elementary School, Driscoll Middle School and Martin Middle School. For the second consecutive year, no CCISD schools received an “F” rating.
Thirty-nine campuses were awarded at least one “Distinction Designation,” for a district total of 118 distinctions. Calk-Wilson Elementary, Sanders Elementary, Smith Elementary, Windsor Park Elementary, Zavala Elementary, and (now closed) Browne Middle School earned all eligible distinction categories.
“We know our students are much more than an accountability score,” Hernandez said. “We take this information, along with a comprehensive view of our students and their education, to help us strategically plan for a school year that will help shape the future of our students and our community.”

As CCISD plans for the upcoming school year, the district will keep the community informed regarding new leadership assignments. Today, the district announced two campus-level appointments.
Veterans Memorial High School: Stevie Swanson has been named principal of Veterans Memorial High School. Most recently, she served as principal of Harold C. Kaffie Middle School. She follows Scott Walker, who was recently named one of two Assistant Superintendents of School Leadership for Elementary Schools.
Swanson, a CCISD graduate, holds a bachelor’s from Texas A&M University and a master’s from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where she also completed her superintendent certification. In June 2025, she completed The Holdsworth Center’s Leadership Program. Swanson has served in instructional and administrative roles at the secondary level since 2010, primarily in CCISD. The district has named Annabel Ramirez, who has served as an assistant principal at Kaffie, as the middle school’s interim principal.
Los Encinos Elementary School: Yvonne Salinas has been named principal of Los Encinos Elementary School. Most recently, she served as principal of William B. Travis Elementary School since 2024. Her service to the district also includes administrator of academics and accountability at Mary Carroll High School.
“The interview committees were impressed with Ms. Swanson’s and Mrs. Salinas’ ability to form cohesive instructional teams and build strong school-family partnerships,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “We are excited to see these two capable leaders take on new roles in our district in time for the new school year.”

Corpus Christi ISD is pleased to announce that it will continue providing free breakfast and lunch to all students for the upcoming school year. Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision provide breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students at no charge.
“We are pleased to continue offering free breakfast and lunch to all CCISD students,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “This program helps ensure every student starts the school day ready to learn and succeed.”
The free meals program is made possible through the Texas Department of Agriculture via the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
CCISD has been providing free breakfast and lunch since 2018. During the 2025-2026 school year, CCISD served over 6 million free breakfast, lunch, Saturday and supper meals.
Parents and guardians do not need to complete a free or reduced-price meal application. However, they should still complete the district income survey as part of the online registration process. This information helps CCISD qualify for grants, funding and other programs that benefit students.
For lunch menus and more, visit ccisd.us or download the CCISD app. The 2026-2027 school year begins Tuesday, August 11.
