Corpus Christi ISD’s AVID program is growing, earning national recognition Corpus Christi ISD shared updates regarding its participation in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, which has been a key component of the district's commitment to academic excellence since its introduction in 2008. “AVID is not ‘another thing.’ AVID is what supports everything, said William Davis, Director for Advanced Academics, in a recent report to the district’s board of trustees. Additionally, Zain Glover of Driscoll Middle School recently qualified as one of 100 AVID-certified educators in the U.S. The district also has three AVID National Demonstration Schools: Cunningham Middle School at South Park, Kaffie Middle School, and Driscoll Middle School. This designation highlights CCISD’s commitment to excellence and student achievement. AVID has been an integral part of CCISD for over 17 years, providing students with invaluable tools and strategies to succeed academically and prepare for their future. Currently implemented in 18 schools, the program continues to grow and evolve, with plans to expand its reach to the district’s newest middle school. 🎉CCISD Named 2024 School District of the Year by National Hispanic Institute🎉 Corpus Christi Independent School District has been named 2024 School District of the Year by The National Hispanic Institute, highlighting the district’s success in developing student leaders. CCISD earned this recognition through consistent commitment to student participation across NHI's three flagship summer leadership programs: the Great Debate, the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session, and the Collegiate World Series. These programs provide opportunities for students to create and advance their ideas, invest in themselves and gain confidence in making college the next step in their professional development. The district's commitment has shown excellent results, with 98% of students enrolling in college and 90% graduating within five years. The NHI representative nominating CCISD for this honor said, “They continue to invest in NHI learning for aspiring leaders of the future. When ISDs are facing lots of challenges evolving and the never-ending challenges of properly financing education, CCISD continues to understand the importance of doing its part to ensure strong student leadership culture and planting the early seeds for future civic engagement. WEATHER UPDATE: Good Afternoon! On Wednesday, January 22, all Corpus Christi ISD schools and offices will have a two-hour delay. Elementary schools will begin at 9:50 a.m. Middle and high schools will begin at 10:50 a.m. Bus schedules will also run on a two-hour delay.    Unless otherwise notified by their supervisor, CCISD employees are expected to report to work on Wednesday two hours later than their usual start time.   Middle school and high school morning practices have been postponed to after school, and Wednesday evening’s games will proceed as scheduled. Athletics and school activity coaches and sponsors will update their groups directly regarding any additional schedule changes.   Thank you, and stay safe!

🎉CCISD's Early Childhood Development Center named H-E-B Excellence in Education finalist🎉 Corpus Christi ISD concluded the annual Winter Break with exciting news, with officials learning Jan. 9 that the Early Childhood Development Center was named a state finalist in the prestigious H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards in the Early Childhood Center category. "We are thrilled to see our Early Childhood Development Center staff's dedication recognized at such a prestigious level," said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. "Being named a finalist in H-E-B's Excellence in Education Awards for early childhood education is a testament to our commitment to providing quality early learning experiences for our youngest students." Winners will be announced at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards ceremony in May. The winning Early Childhood Center will receive $25,000, and finalists in the category $5,000. H-E-B Excellence in Education’s School District Award is based on commitment to student achievement through innovative programs, parent/community involvement, and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators. Since their awards program began in 2002, H-E-B has awarded more than $13 million to Texas teachers, principals, public school districts, school boards, and early childhood facilities.

Corpus Christi ISD has named Roxanne Douglas as Chief Financial Officer. Douglas began her career with CCISD as a senior accountant in 2002, and recently served as the Associate Director of Finance. Douglas earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A&M University in College Station and is a certified public accountant. She is stepping into the position following Donna Hohn's retirement after 27 years with the district. “We are pleased to welcome Roxanne Douglas as our new Chief Financial Officer,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “Her two decades of dedicated service to CCISD, combined with her strong financial background and thorough understanding of our district's operations, make her exceptionally qualified for this role. Her experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to be good stewards of our community's resources."

The Board also recognized Above the Line employee of the month winners, the Miller High School NJROTC and Menger Elementary School students for assisting with the pledges at the start of Monday's meeting.
